James Nichol Beatson enlisted on 19th August 1914 and went to France with No. 8 Platoon, ‘B’ Company in February 1915. He was killed on 23rd July 1916 at High Wood. His diary for February to December 1915 was auctioned at Sotheby’s on 7th December 2006.
